SOHO THEATRE (http://sohotheatre.com/)

Free ticket offer at Soho Theatre Soho Theatre presents3 Days in July 18 & 22 October, 7pm 'If these are my people And these are your people Watch your mind when it comes to treatment. For, only through mutual respect and tolerance Can your people and my people be equal.'Khanya "Coruscate" Qoboshiyana, South African student

3 Days in July, was created in direct response to the events surrounding the G8 summit. During this time, South African and British school children documented their day-to-day lives through diaries, poems and letters to each other. The three days turned out to be far different to what anyone could have imagined with the London children celebrating winning the Olympic bid, then experiencing the effects of the 7 July bombings. Their diaries are weaved together with newspaper reports into a unique piece of theatre highlighting the differences, similarities and struggles of both cultures and exploring the effects of global politics on young people worldwide.

We have a limted number of complimentary tickets available. To reserve your tickets, email zebina@sohotheatre.com (mailto:zebina@sohotheatre.com)

is such fun. Turning the space into a gallery is even better. Inviting people down to find out they've all been evicted? I just can't put a price on it...

At the whitechapel gallery they were showing the work of Allan Kaprov, an influential figure in performance art. The films were made in the 70's and I couldn't help laughing at the hair and glasses.... It seemed a bit of a pisstake at first but it dawns on you that the exercises onscreen really do put you in touch with yourself and your partner.

EG: Hold your breath and tap the microphone with a pen in time to your pulse. Play back the recording to your partner over the telephone. Now they must do the same. Another one is to hold an icecube between you, per pic, and continually ask, "is it warm yet?"

Then there was the works of Candice Breitz. Now.... just go visit whitecube.com and read for yourself. It was good. And to think there's one devoted to Michael Jackson.

Currently at White Cube: Jake and Dinos Chapman....

:: fordham sucks

  Don't you just love catchy titles. Now listen!

Have you ever had a work of art all to yourself?

Just off Brick Lane there's a bloody amazing piece of work in a room which only allows one person at a time.

There's other works to see too which are pretty cool but it's really that room ... to describe it one way would be to say it's lucious, bittersweet and pretty damn trippy,

another would be to say... it's a trip where you become detached from your (city) life and stand outside looking in. But that's just my interpretation.

I'm not going to say anything else and ruin it for you, just trust me! This is the kind of thing Saatchi would buy up and charge you to see... (yup entrance here is free)

The gallery is only open for one more weekend. Get in early before the queueing starts! If you're free during the week, call up and book an appointment. Then you can realllly enjoy it ;)

MORE INFO

If you don't live in London, sorry! But you never know, it might transfer out to a gallery near you some day...

:: saved but destroyed

Went to see a play with Sara P called "Saved and Destroyed" at the Red Lion. After a difficult first half, Sara was raving about it and I was quite sucked in by her ardour for the symbolism etc. I noted that the writer had died (all the better for profit share) ten years ago, all the more surprising as I felt the play to have a very contemporary feel. However the next morning I suddenly had to consider what had the play actually done for me? An interesting insight into the life of a struggling actor, which is cool enough on its own, but it seemed to be trying to say something about abortion and parasitical growths. Didn't really get it, perhaps I'll quiz Sara about it later - but didn't really feel bothered. Did the play fail? I spoke to a mate about the message in my play. Blank face. Hmmm and they say they prefer subtlety. Subtlety MY ASS! It doesn't work. Not for the people you should be caring about the most.

However one thing more importantly arose for me that night. Ahem. The "personal issues" card. I had already noted in several reviews of certain productions a lack of abuse when the play was about the writer's personal issues... The age of PC is still upon us, the question is whether to take advantage?

:: nicotine

Our last show was on the 7th. Obviously we had to cancel. The problem now is rescheduling - which is a major pain. 1) The "festival" is over 2) The venue is busy with other events 3) the actors are busy with other commitments.

So where to take it next?

Looking at festivals, it's far too late, or too far in the future.

Looking at pub theatres it's either far too expensive or same as above.

Edinburgh Fringe also kills the scene during August as everyone is up there. Hmmm.

Time to find another venue? The costs of re-advertising as opposed to sticking to the original venue where our repuation has been spreading? Hmmm.
